Testing is in Torftech’s DNA. One particular set of tests had an unexpected outcome. We have been involved in some interesting concepts brought to us to use our TORBED reactors for new applications. These included, among others, the drying of krill as an alternative to an industrial belt dryer. This application worked well at the pilot scale but was not developed further at scale by the clients. The drying of krill faced an additional hurdle when the krill (similar to small prawns) which had been flown all the way from the Falkland Islands, dried in one of our small test TORBED units, and laid out to cool on a bench, were eaten by a cat that entered through an open window. As we remarked at the time, we had clearly produced very attractive cat food—but, sadly, all the evidence had been eaten and the results of the test were consequently indeterminate!
