The energy transition demands more than renewable generation. For industry, it requires smarter ways to handle the difficult fuels and waste streams that conventional technology has always struggled with — materials too variable, too low-grade, or too awkward to process cleanly and efficiently. That’s a problem Torftech has spent decades solving.
Our industrial fluidized bed gasifier is built around the TORBED® reactor, a proprietary toroidal fluidized bed technology that delivers performance conventional designs simply can’t match. The toroidal geometry creates an intensely active, highly uniform gas-solid contact zone — one that achieves higher carbon conversion, tighter temperature control, and greater resilience to feedstock variability, all within a compact physical footprint. For brownfield projects and retrofit applications, that combination is particularly compelling.
Feedstock flexibility is genuinely central to what we offer. The TORBED® reactor has been operated across a wide range of real-world materials — biomass residues, torrefied wood, refuse-derived fuel, agricultural waste, and certain industrial process residues — handling variations in moisture, particle size, and calorific value without the operational upsets that trouble less forgiving designs. For operators who can’t guarantee a perfectly consistent fuel supply, that resilience translates directly into commercial reliability.
The output is a consistent, usable syngas stream, configurable for heat and power generation, combined heat and power, or more ambitious downstream applications including hydrogen production. Torftech works with clients from the earliest engineering stages to ensure the system is matched to the intended end use — not retrofitted to it.
