How does a technology originally designed for mineral processing find its way into the food industry? It’s not the most obvious leap—but serendipity played a key role. One of our directors happened to hear a BBC Radio 4 segment about a snack product designed to absorb less oil during frying. Inspired, he reached out to the snack producer and proposed an idea: why not fry their pellets with no oil at all for an even healthier result?
Intrigued, they sent us samples, which we processed using our air-frying technique—pioneering what is now known as air fryer technology, decades ahead of its time. The result? A superior, oil-free snack.
Fast forward to today, and our TORBED processors are used to create snacks, breakfast cereals, potato and flour starches, pasteurized spices, roasted nuts, coffee, and cocoa beans. If that’s not the perfect example of serendipity, what is?
