In parallel with our technology’s development from its initial mineral applications to processing food, we also began what was to become another important theme in the life of our technology, the treatment of industrial waste.
Our initial step on this road was the use of the TORBED processor as an industrial wate combustor, treating spent aluminium smelter pot liners so that the residues can be safely disposed. This required burn-out of the carbon and other contaminants such as cyanide without melting the potliner flux material. To do this effectively, the process has to occur within a 20ºC window at over 700ºC, another illustration of the control offered by the Torftech Technology.
We installed a pilot plant in 1986 and the first full-sized plant three year’s later.
